A curated botanical collection created to imitate high-humidity environments. In these settings, aroids naturally flourish, which directly inspired the creation of Araceae Magazine.
Foundational Concept
The Araceae Cloud Forest was established as a specialised environment dedicated to cultivating and maturing aroids—by mimicking the ecological conditions of cloud forests, notably their consistent temperature, humidity, and dynamic light.
Growing Environment
High humidity, regulated by digital sensors and automated fogging, creates an atmosphere similar to tropical montane cloud forests where many rare aroids originate. Precise climate controls optimise temperature, moisture, and light, supporting epiphytic, hemi-epiphytic, and terrestrial growth habits. Plants develop aerial roots and healthy foliage characteristic of mature cloud forest aroids.
Cultivation Practices
Aroids are mass-planted in a premium coco coir blend (60% pith, 40% chips), chosen for its water retention, aeration, and sterile sustainability. A specifically formulated fertiliser regimen was tailored to support vigorous growth and healthy root systems. Environmental conditions are optimised to mimic those found in high-elevation forests, encouraging the development of aroid species that are often slow-growing and rare in cultivation.
